Tips for Shorter Vacations

Quick jaunts to the Island, Seattle or elsewhere are a great way to spend a weekend. But, even short trips can take some orchestrating. Here are some tips to make your mini-vacation fun and stress-free.

Pack Light

Part of what makes weekend getaways so great is that they require so little packing. No more than a carry-on is ever required. But even your carry-on should be ultra-light. Only take what you’ll realistically wear or use. Pack attire that’s versatile; if all your clothing falls within a matching colour scheme, these can be mixed and matched.

Research Your Destination
Researching your destination beforehand is an essential part of ensuring your trip goes off without a hitch. The last thing you want to do is waste valuable time trying to figure out where to eat or what bus leads to the other side of town. Here are a few things to look into before you take off.

  • Where to Dine? Create a shortlist of options and make reservations when applicable. Always have one or two backup options for each meal in case Plan A doesn’t work out.

  • How to get around? Not every city or town is accessible by local public transit. Some destinations may require that you rent a car or take cabs. Knowing how you’ll move about on your mini-vacation before you arrive can prevent all kinds of hassles later on. And, don’t forget to consider airport transportation. While Delta Surrey Green Cab is licensed to pick up in Surrey, Delta, Ladner, Tsawwassen, and the Vancouver International Airport (YVR), our cabs or shuttle busses can take you just about anywhere, including the Abbotsford International Airport, Langley Airport, Boundary Bay Airport and of course, Vancouver International airport. Other towns will have their own cabs or shuttle busses to get you to and from the airport.
  • What to do? Knowing what to do over the duration of your trip before you arrive is a good idea. Just be careful about jamming too many things into your schedule. Your itinerary should leave time for meandering and simply taking things in while you relax.

Make Copies of Important Documents

It’s always a good idea to make and keep copies of your important documents. If something should get lost or stolen, you’ll have your bases covered. Keeping digital or paper copies of your passport, birth certificate, driver’s licence, and front and back of your credit cards is wise.
